What are Coffee Pods?

Pods are a convenient way to make excellent espresso coffees.

What goes into a pod?

Precisely measured ground coffee
Roasted coffee beans are freshly ground and immediately measured into individual doses - either single serve or double serves. Each dose is then pre-tamped for optimal extraction and wrapped in a paper pod.

Sealed-in, longer-lasting freshness
The filled pods are hermetically sealed into laminated aluminium pouches and flushed with nitrogen to remove the oxygen. This locks in all the original aromas and flavours of the freshly ground coffee until the pouch is opened and the pod is used.

Options when buying espresso pods

Different pod sizes
Pod Pack's pods come in 3 sizes - 7g, 10g or 14g servings of ground coffee:

  • 7g pods for single shot coffees like short blacks, macchiatos.
  • 10g pods for slightly stronger coffees, served in medium sized cups or mugs, such as long blacks, lattés or cappucinos.
  • 14g pods for double shots or for extra-strong single serves of milk-based coffees such as long blacks, cappuccinos or lattés.

Coffee capsules v coffee pods

Coffee capsules
A coffee capsule is generally a single dose of coffee packed into either plastic or aluminium packaging. These capsules are typically designed to be a 'closed system' whereby a branded capsule can only be used together with a specific machine, therefore locking the consumer into only one brand / system.

Coffee pods
A coffee pod is generally a single dose of coffee packed into paper. The pod is designed as a pre-defined, standard-sized 'open system' and will fit into many coffee machine types. This gives the consumer a broader and freer choice of pod brands and machinery.
